Background

...an orientation and mobility specialist. The idea of teaching children and adults how to safely maneuver throughout their environment to resume or regain their freedom was, in my mind, the ultimate gift to a visually impaired individual. Couple that with the assistive technology involved and I had a match made in heaven! Consequently I transferred to Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Upon graduating with my masters degree in 1983 I took a job as teacher of the visually impaired (V.I)/orientation and mobility (O&M) specialist with the Wisconsin School for the Visually Handicapped and later with the school district of Janesville.

After 21 years of teaching the visually impaired I decided to pursue my growing interest in technology and become a library media specialist. This career move allowed me still maintain contact with the students I so enjoy as well as broaden my career by challenging myself with the ever changing world of technology.

Since becoming a library media specialist I have had many opportunities to attend conferences and trainings. Currently I am a certified Smart Board trainer, as well as a master trainer for INTEL. I love sharing my new found skills with my students and colleagues.

When I am not teaching, learning, or practicing new skills I am participating in my other pastimes. My love for the outdoors offers me loads of interests; everything from cycling to scuba diving to golf to tennis.

My passion for travel takes me all over this amazing world of ours. I love when I can emerse myself into the culture of the host country. Getting to know the people, their land, their way of life offers me a greater understanding of the diversity in our own classrooms.
